Sick Mom + Homeschool = Long Week!

I was sick all week. I came down with a nasty cold and went to the doctor on Thursday. Still feeling crummy, but a lot better than I did on Monday and Tuesday. The week seemed to drag forever, but we still managed to get things done and I know that is only because of God. He is so good to let us get a good week of school in and a field trip even with me not feeling well. Here's what Mj did this week!

Bible: We talked about the 10 commandments and the Israelites worshiping the golden calf and we also did a prophet spotlight on Jonah. He memorized Exodus 32:26 "Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, 'Who is on the Lord's side? Let him come unto me.' And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him."
Mj adds Jonah to our Bible timeline.
English: Mj learned about making nouns plural by adding "-es" and that some nouns need to change their spelling. He also learned about common nouns and proper nouns. Commas in a series were also another thing we briefly discussed.

Math: More fact families and problem solving strategies.

Reading: Mj read a story about a man going to market and the predicament he gets himself into with a goose, fox, and corn. We also reviewed compound words and silent "gh".

Heritage Studies: Mj learned about growing cotton and how cotton is dyed.

Science: We finished our chapter on forces by studying mechanical force and friction.
Mj demonstrating mechanical force with a pinwheel.

Mj loved this experiment to see which has more friction water or corn syrup.
Then we just had some fun looking at each other through the jars. =)
Wednesday was homeschool day at the Hershey Story Museum. I had registered for this 2 months ago and sick as a dog that day. So I took lots of Dayquil and took Mj to it. We had so much fun!!! They had a scavenger hunt for them to do all through the museum. They also had some hands on activities and we got to paint by chocolate. It was yummy!! So glad that I got to take him. He said it was an awesome day!

The conche machine.

Getting ready to paint by chocolate. Mj wasn't too thrilled with the hair net.

Picking out the ingredients to make milk chocolate.

His beautiful chocolate creation!

Mj made a nice quilt pattern out of paper.

Mj posing with the mural of Milton S. Hershey.

We learned some interesting facts about cocoa beans. Mj's holding a cocoa pod from Trinidad.
