Our Week in Review - More Colonists, a Round Earth, and Verbs

Another week has come and gone. Mj got a lot accomplished this week. Here's what he learned.

Bible: Mj learned about Samson and the need to have a humble heart. He memorized II Chronicles 7:14 "If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

English: Mj learned about verbs this week. He learned that verbs are action words. He also learned that when you have one person or thing, you need to add "s" or "es" to the verb. Also, he learned the difference between "now" verbs and "past" verbs and that past verbs need an "-ed" suffix.
Writing the correct verb in the blank.
Reading: Mj read about koala bears and kangaroos. He couldn't believe that a kangaroo is about the size of a man's pinky when it's born and that a kangaroo can kill a man with it's legs.

Mj (AKA Indiana Jones) reading about Kangaroos.

Math: Double digit addition was the thing this week. By the end of the week he was adding 3 double digit numbers together! He thought that was the hardest thing ever!
I had him do a word problem on the board while I went to get the baby. I come back down and he turned his math problem into a truck.
We love playing Monopoly Jr.
Heritage Studies: We talked about the last couple colonies and why people came to these colonies. When he was reading about Pennsylvania he read "Quakers" as "Quackers." I couldn't get him to stop laughing. So whenever he came to the word "Quaker" he would giggle! I think he'll remember that the Quakers came to Pennsylvania!=)
Adding our last colony to the wall - Georgia. Colonists came to Georgia because they couldn't pay their bills.
Science: Mj began a unit on the earth. I had him draw a picture of him on the earth and then draw a picture of the earth in space. We talked about why when he drew him on the earth he drew the ground flat, but the earth in space he drew the earth round. We came to the conclusion when you see a part of the earth it looks flat, but when you see the whole earth it is round and we know that from the astronauts who have taken pictures from space.

Mj's picture of him on the earth and the earth in space.
Seeing what the ball look likes with his face smooshed against the side of it. It looked flat.
But away from the ball, it looks round.
Extras:
Mj loves to play Mancala. He beats me most of the time, too.

Mj and Jadyn enjoyed baking brownies with me.
Licking the batter is the best!
Mj made a Thanksgiving tree - He's thankful for his brother, sister, Bible and earth.

I loved reading about your week! how exciting. That photo of your son in the bean bag reading -- that's a common sight in our house too, though my kids are all older (teen years). Stopping over from the weekly wrap up.

What great activities with M.J. The teaching/memorizing about Samson is awesome. It's neat to hear what stands out to him in what he's learning (like the kangaroo info). Making yummy treats with the kids is the best.

I loved reading your round up! I have considered this, but I am not sure if I could really write about all of the children and their week without it being way too long of a post. LOL
I am here from Hip Homeschool Hop.
