Our Week in Review - Renaming, Gingerbread Houses, and Mouse King

After a nice Thanksgiving break, it was time for some school. Here's Mj's week.

Bible:
We learned about Hannah's prayer for Samuel and how God used Samuel as a prophet. Mj memorized I John 1:7 "But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin." We're looking forward to our Christmas unit now.

Mj added Samuel to our Bible timeline.
English: Mj wrote his first poem. He wrote a couplet about winter.

Reading: Mj read a story about a girl who found an owl.

Math: Mj learned how to subtract using renaming. This was a hard concept at first, but by the end of the week he had it down.
Using unifix cubes to help subtract.
And we had some fun playing Skipbo.
Heritage Studies: Mj learned that England was not the only country who came to the New World. He also learned about the influences of other countries on our country now. We talked about Dutch doors, influence of Spain in Miami when we visited there in Sept., and how in certain parts of Canada they speak French.

Science: Mj started a unit on light. We talked about the sources of light.

At co-op this week, the kids sang Christmas carols for some elderly people. Afterwards we went back and made gingerbread houses together. Mj worked so hard on his house and I think it turned out great.

Today, our co-op took a field trip to see the Nutcracker Suite. So we studied some facts about the Nutcracker this week to prepare. He enjoyed the ballet especially the Nutcracker and Mouse Kings battle.

Trying out the different ballet positions.
A Mommy & Mj date to the theater to see the ballet!
We also started our advent calendar this week. We are so excited to focus on the excitement of Christ's birth this month!

Mj and Jadyn set up our nativity scene.
