Minerals, Maps, Reading, and "B"

We had a good week of school this week. Here's what we did.

MJ - 5th Grade

Bible: Mj is still reading about building his life on a strong foundation.  He memorized Deuteronomy 32:4 "He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just.  A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He."

English: Mj worked on conjuctions and prepositions.

Math:  We finished up our chapter on decimals.

Reading:  Mj read about library skills.  We then got online together and reserved some books to pick up at the library.

History:  We finished up our chapter on maps.  We talked about the different types of maps (political, cultural, road maps, time zones...)

Checking out our Florida road map and finding the large scale Miami map.

Science: Mj learned more about minerals and crystals.
Mj dissolving Epsom salt in water for our experiment.
Mj has to check his two bowls for crystals every day and write down his observations.  We'll see after a week what happens.
Doing a little research online about iron.

Extra:
Enjoying a puzzle during a break.
Taking a break in the fort

Jadyn - Kindergarten
We focused on firefighters this week.

We had fun doing an experiment with fire.  Jadyn learned that fire needs heat, air, and fuel to burn.  Here she was taking away the heat by spraying water on the candle.
Taking away the air.
Taking away the fuel. This was pure torture for Jadyn cause it took about 10 minutes. lol
But I love the look on her face when the fuel ran out!
Jadyn practicing "Stop, Drop, & Roll"
Jadyn was excited to make a firefighter hat.

Enjoying a fire cup snack (jello & whip cream)

Phonics:
Jadyn worked on "t" and short "i"

Writing "t"
Reading "it"
Writing "it" on the chalkboard.
Reading our book together.

Working on "t" on her ipad app - "The ABC's of God"

Math: Jadyn worked on sequencing and one to one matching.

Making a sequence with farm animals.
One to One matching with shapes.

Extra:

Jadyn started her piano lessons this week. She was so excited!
Jadyn mastered monkey bars at the park.  She was pretty excited about that, too!

 Gabe - Totschool

Gabe was excited I got the fire engine and fire truck out for him this week.
Dot a Dot "B" is for ball.
Gabe loved his dot a dot markers this week.

Sorting his Batmans by size.
Playing with bugs!

I walked in the living room to find Gabe reading his Cubbies book for Awana.  So sweet!
He was excited about coloring his fire engine.
His bins were not a big hit this week.  He did play with his beans for about 5 minutes.
These animals had a pretty epic battle during school.
He thought it was hilarious to "match" his butterflies the wrong way.
Gabe's Bee
Gluing bears on "B" is exhausting.

Gabe is definitely all boy and does not enjoy sitting and doing papers so we just go with the flow.  It's amazing what he soaks up just by listening to me teach the older 2.

Job - Teeny Tot

Enjoying some exersaucer time during school.
Job loves hiding balls in the kitchen.
Job found Jadyn's stick puppet she made.  He had a blast with it!!!

I got the printables from 1+1+1=1 and Confessions of a Homeschooler.

It looks like a fun week. We went to an old iron furnace last week.
