Week in Review - We're in Countdown Mode

We had a great week. With the end of our school year coming to a close, we're starting to wrap up some subjects and our load is getting easier!  Here's what we did this week.

MJ - 5th Grade
Bible: Mj finished his Bible curriculum.  We used Apologia's Who is God? and we both really enjoyed it.  Mj will be doing the next volume in the series next year.

English: Conjunctions, Complex Sentences and Compound Sentences.  He wasn't too excited! LOL

Math: Mj finished up his chapter on Ratios, Rates, & Percents.

History: We talked about the 1980s.  Kind of scary that some of the stuff he was learning about I remembered! Yikes!  I feel old.  He was really interested in the Challenger so we did some extra research on that.  He learned why the shuttle exploded and a little about the crew.

Science: Mj started his last chapter on the circulatory system. He was pretty amazed by how many veins, arteries, and capillaries are in our body.  What an amazing God that created us!

I was a bad mom and had no pictures of Mj.  He actually did most of his school work this week independently so that's why there's a lack of pictures.

Jadyn - Kindergarten

Beginnings: Jadyn learned about the White House (she now thinks we need a bowling alley in our house, too), Mt. Vernon and our flag.

Phonics: Jadyn is doing so well with her reading.  The new curriculum I got for her is really working out great for her and for me! I'm so proud of her!
It was a perfect morning for some outdoor reading.
Math: Jadyn did a lot of work on subtraction this week.
Jadyn loves when we get the unifix cubes out for math.

Gabe - Totschool
Gabe is all about coloring right now so I gave him lots of pages to color.  His letter this week was "Y".  He colored a lot of spring pictures, too.

Job - Teeny Tot School
Job is all about doing what the big kids are doing.  He was all about coloring papers at the table with us or playing outside in his cozy coupe.

We had such a great day of school today that I surprised the kids and took them to the zoo for a couple of hours.

My two scary lions!
Job & Mj cool off in the splash pad.
The orangutans and gibbons were showing off for us as we were leaving!

Just One of Those Days...

Missing my mom today. It's hard to believe that she's been in the presence of Jesus for almost 13 years.  Every day I have the longing to call her up on the phone and tell her about my day, share what crazy things the kids did today, ask her for advice and listen to her encouraging words. How I wish my kids had the opportunity to know her, to be spoiled by her, and to be loved by her.

I wish she could see what an amazing young man Mj is turning into.  I wish she could see his tender heart to those around him. I wish he could share with her the cool things he's learning and his lego creations.
I wish I could get advice on this one.  She is a little me and I now know that I was not an easy cookie to raise! LOL  I wish Jadyn could feel the love of her grandma, sing all the "Frozen" songs over and over to her. I wish my mom could see this crazy little personality who is so full of life.

I wish my mom would get to laugh at our family comedian, Gabe.  I'm sure I would be calling my mom a lot to ask if this bump on his head is serious, if this cut needs stitches, etc.  He is our clutzy one. =)
My mom would love to squeeze this adorable one!  I wish she could hear Job copying everything everyone says to him.  I know she would have a blast getting him to say funny things.
In all the "wishes" and sadness I know God is in control and He gives me peace and strength when I need it.

We really have been learning!

I have been so slack at keeping my blog updated on our homeschooling adventure! Life has been busy!  So here's a quick update of what the kids have been doing!

Job finds lots of ways to get into trouble during school.  Thankfully, I can find some things to keep him entertained for 5 minutes or so! ;)
Jadyn loves doing learning activities on the ipad!
Gabe has become quite the artist recently.  I don't seem to have enough coloring pages for him to do! ;)
Mj just finished up his chapter on the respiratory system.  He made a lung model.
I bought a reading curriculum at the homeschool convention I went to a couple of weeks ago.  It seriously has been the light bulb that Jadyn has needed.  Her reading is really improving! I'm so proud of her!
I often find these two coloring together! I love watching them interact!
Gabe loves matching upper case and lower case letters.
This scene right here is one of the main reasons I love homeschooling! Seeing them all working together, getting along.... makes my heart melt.  We won't talk about the times that don't look like this! ;)
Jadyn learned about plants.  She loved this experiment.  Every hour she would check her celery to see if they had turned blue and red.
Mj and I got up at 2:45 am on the morning of April 15 to see the total lunar eclipse and blood moon! It was awesome! And I loved having that fun bonding time with MJ.  Too bad lunar eclipses can't be at 2 in the afternoon! LOL
We have 13 more school days! We are all ready for summer break! =)

Resurrection Sunday

We had a fun week counting down to Resurrection Sunday! Each day I tried to have a special activity for the kids to do.

We made peanut butter eggs.
Job enjoyed licking the chocolate!
We learned about Passover and enjoyed some food the Jews would have at their Seder.
We did lots of coloring of our special Easter pages.
Dying Easter eggs is always fun!
The finished eggs.
We read lots of stories this week.  We love the Jesus Storybook Bible so we read the crucifixion and resurrection stories in there.  The Prince's Poison Cup is a favorite that we read every year at this time.
The kids make Mt. Calvary and the tomb out of home-made playdough.  We talk about the crucifixion and we bury Jesus' body and look forward to Resurrection Sunday!
Making yummy Resurrection rolls.
They are so yummy!
Sunday morning the kids come and check the tomb! He is risen indeed!
All dressed up for church!
We ended our Resurrection Sunday week with an Easter egg hunt!
Job loved finding the eggs!
I am amazed at what Christ has done for me! I love celebrating this time with my children!
