The Past 2 Weeks...

Weekly Wrap-Up
We've had a busy and fun two weeks.  Here's what we've been up to.

MJ-6th Grade

English: Mj is starting his personal narrative.  Not his favorite thing in the world to do, but he thought of something fun to write about so I'm hoping that helps.

Math: Lots of multiplication (whole numbers, decimals, 3 digit numbers, exponents).

Science: Mj's been learning about weathering and erosion.  We've watched some cool youtube videos of avalanches and mudslides and seen some cool pictures of different chemical weathering.  Pretty fun!  He also took a soil sample from our yard and discovered we have sandy loam soil.

History:  We've been talking about Mesopotamia and the Sumerians.

Writing his initials in cuneiform on a clay tablet.
Art: I saw how some of the blogs I follow have been using HomeArt Studio DVDs for art so I checked them out.  My kids love them.  Mj drew a lighthouse this week for art.  It looks amazing!

Mj also started his enrichment classes at co-op 2 weeks ago.  He's taking Tae Kwan Do and a Stop Motion Animation class.  He is loving it!

Jadyn - 1st Grade
Phonics & English: Jadyn has learned about punctuation and is reviewing her letter sounds.

I love to watch her read.  It is not easy for her, and a lot of times she wants to give up. But I give her a confidence boost and she powers through it and really is doing so well!  She does better than what she thinks.  It's a learning process for both of us!
Erasing the word I say.  She loves this activity.

Math: Making addition sentences.
Jadyn made addition sentences using unifix cubes and her numbers.  Job decided to join in on the fun.

Spelling:  I had Jadyn spell her words with water and a paint brush.  That's some fun spelling practice right there! =)

Science: Jadyn has been learning about her senses.
Doing an experiment about how our sense of smell helps our sense of taste.
It had nothing to do with the senses, but we were talking about how things move faster when heated and slower when cold so I got some hot water and cold water put some food coloring in and we watched what happened.
History: Jadyn has been learning about maps and globes.

Art: Jadyn is using the HomeArt Studio DVDs, too.  She's using the 1st grade one.  She loved making this roller coaster. Gabe joined in on the roller coaster fun, too.

Jadyn started her enrichment classes, too.  She's taking a ballet class.

She is also taking an American Girl class.  They are learning about Kaya. She's made a corn husk doll and a bed for her doll.  She is loving her classes!

Gabe - Preschool
Gabe learned about the letter F, number 3, and Squares.
Coloring his "F" paper while we wait for Jadyn and Mj at enrichment.
We found a caterpillar and talked about how they turn into butterflies.
Organizing unifix cubes in his truck.  He was teaching Job all the colors.
Job - Totschool
I didn't have much for Job to do, but he did a lot of coloring and a lot of stickers.  Pretty much he played and played which is what toddler boys are supposed to do!
Expedition Earth
We learned about Japan and India the past two weeks.  The kids were excited to get some globe beach balls and we made great use of them to find our continents, oceans, and the countries we have studied so far.

I have no idea why this pic is on its side, but I'm too tired to fix it.  Sorry! ;)
On Thursday we celebrated Patriot's Day by taking homemade cookies to our local fire stations and police department.  You can read about our day here. We had a fun day and the firefighters and police officers were so grateful.  The kids learned a lot.  We got tours of the stations and got some fun goodies, too!

Gabe coloring his police coloring book.  He played fire fighters and policeman for the rest of the week! =)

Job is 2!

I cannot believe my baby is 2 years old today! These 2 years have flown by! Job is a ball of energy!  He doesn't stop much.  He repeats everything we say.  I love hearing his little voice say, "Please, help me" and "Awesome!"  He loves to do anything his big brothers and big sister are doing.  He loves big trucks and balls. He loves to make us laugh and be silly.  He is a reminder to me of God's grace.  With so many bad memories on this day (the tragedies of 9/11 and the memory of seeing my mom for the last time until Heaven) God gave me such a gift in Job.  He brings me so much happiness and I'm so grateful to have happiness around this time of year that used to be so difficult for me. To God be the glory!

Job, we love you more than words can express.  Our prayer is that you will know your need of a Savior at a young age, at that you would have a sweet relationship with your Heavenly Father.  We pray that you will live up to your name sake. Job was such an amazing man of God. I'm humbled when I read about him in the Bible. May you bring God glory and praise in the good times and the bad.

Job on his birthday 9/11/12.  Those cheeks!!! =)
Job today on his 2nd birthday. 9/11/14.

Honoring Our Fire Fighters & Police Officers

Last year we started a tradition of making cookies for our fire fighters and police officers on 9/11.  My children were not born yet to see the tragedies of that horrific day, but I want them to understand the sacrifice that so many men and women make for us to remain safe.  So yesterday we baked and baked and then today we delivered yummy cookies and home made cards to our community heroes.

We went to one of our fire stations first.
The firemen were so excited we brought them cookies they wanted to show us around their station.  The kids loved trying on the firefighter helmets.
Mj looks good as a fireman.
Jadyn being cheesy with her fire fighter helmet.
It was a bit heavy for Job's head. LOL
After stopping by our 2nd fire station we went to the police station.  The police officers were so in awe of us stopping by to thank them.  They said no one had ever done that before.  We got a tour of the station and bags full of coloring books and crayons.  The kids loved it!
The kids left telling me it was the best day ever! What a great opportunity for them to show the love of Jesus to those serving our community.

A Weekend Get-Away

My husband is so good about making sure we get some a weekend away at least once a year.  Our anniversary comes right around the beginning of the school year so it's pretty hectic for him to be able to get away that weekend, but he made sure we got an anniversary trip in this past weekend.  He took me to Bonita Springs and is really was such a relaxing and fun weekend together.

The beautiful hotel we stayed at.
He rented a convertible for our trip!  So much fun!
We ate so much delicious food!  I think I gained about 10 pounds! ;)
The view from our hotel room porch.  It overlooked the lake and the pool.

We enjoyed a 4 mile kayak trip through beautiful cypress trees and mangroves.  We saw lots of turtles and birds, but no manatee.  Oh well. It was so much fun!
It rained Saturday afternoon so since Mark knows me so well, we went and walked around Target and then enjoyed some pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks.
Once it cleared up we drove to Sanibel Island to walk around the beach.
A bunch of moon jellyfish were washed up on shore.
The lighthouse
I love being goofy - this was my explorer pose! LOL
I love this man more than words can say.
A teeny tiny crab we found.
On the drive home we stopped at Bonita Beach and watched one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen in my life.  What a beautiful and amazing God I serve!
Sunday we spent at the beach, collecting sea shells to bring home to the kids, soaking up some sun and being kids ourselves!
I love my beach hair waves.
Driving home from a great weekend. The Everglades are a pretty cool place to drive through on a sunny day!
The kids were dying to take a ride in the convertible!

It was a great weekend, but we did miss our kids (a little bit). =)  So thankful for the 13 years I've been married to my husband.  I can't imagine my life without him. It would be pretty boring I know that for sure!

Job's a Puggle

Last Wednesday Job moved up to the Puggles class in Awana.  No more nursery for my baby!  He seemed to have a lot of fun! Gabe's a great helper and let Job know what to do!
