Christmas Concert with the Gettys

On Friday night Jadyn & I had our most fun mommy/daughter date ever!  I took Jadyn to Keith & Kristyn Getty's Christmas concert.  I love their music and Jadyn has become a fan of their music, too.  Mark & I went to their Christmas concert two years ago and it was amazing.  Since Mark couldn't go, I decided to take my music-lovin' girl.  We had so much fun!

Loaded up in the minivan and ready to hit the road to Ft. Lauderdale.
We got stuck in traffic (life in Miami), so we had to eat dinner on the go in the car so that we could get to the church early to get amazing seats.  And we did.  I think Jadyn had one of the best seats in the place! =)
This right here made my entire night.  I don't want to ever forget the look of joy on her face.  This was her expression when the concert started!
If you can ever go to one of their concerts, do it.  It is so much fun and it is such a worshipful time of praising Jesus! I had goosebumps as we sang "Joy Has Dawned/Angels We Have Heard on High" and "In Christ Alone"
After the concert the band had a lobby jam in the lobby.  We had a front row spot to see them!  They are amazing!!!
On the way out, we got to meet Keith Getty.  It truly was an honor to meet him.  He signed the program for Jadyn.  She's been carrying it around everywhere.
We had to stop and get donuts and hot chocolate before we headed home.
I love  making these special memories with my children.  I had so much fun watching my daughter experience her first concert and watching her praise Jesus as we sang together.  It's a night I won't forget and I hope she won't either.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We've been doing a lot of studying of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving the past couple of days and discussing our gratitude.  We have been given so much, so much more than we deserve!  The words to this hymn by Keith & Kristyn Getty & Stuart Townend pretty much sum up my thoughts about Thanksgiving.

My heart is filled with thankfulness
To Him who bore my pain;
Who plumbed the depths of my disgrace
And gave me life again;
Who crushed my curse of sinfulness
And clothed me in His light
And wrote His law of righteousness
With pow'r upon my heart.

My heart is filled with thankfulness
To Him who walks beside;
Who floods my weaknesses with strength
And causes fears to fly;
Whose ev'ry promise is enough
For ev'ry step I take,
Sustaining me with arms of love
And crowning me with grace.

My heart is filled with thankfulness
To him who reigns above,
Whose wisdom is my perfect peace,
Whose ev'ry thought is love.
For ev'ry day I have on earth
Is given by the King;
So I will give my life, my all,
To love and follow him.

A Busy But Fun Week

Weekly Wrap-Up

This week has flown by.  Maybe cause we had so much going on, and I know the busyness will only get worse until the new year.  Oh well, one perk to homeschooling is that we can take it easy when life around us gets so busy.  Here's what our week looked like.

Mj - 6th Grade

English: Mj wrote a paper on how to make a Halloween mask.

Math: Geometry shapes, angles, circles.

Science: Mj finished up his chapter on animal classification.  He has learned a lot of cool facts about God's creation.  Each animal is truly amazing!

History: Mj finished up his chapter on ancient India.

Co-op: Tuesday finished up our enrichment classes til the new year.  I was able to snap a quick pic of Mj in his Tae Kwon Do class.
Jadyn - 1st Grade

Phonics & English: Jadyn has been reviewing long vowel sounds and adding suffixes "-ing" and "-ed" to a short vowel word and a long vowel word.

Math: Fractions

Spelling: Spelling is difficult, but when we make it hands-on this girl is amazing. This week I pulled out the play dough and alphabet stamps.
Science: Jadyn learned about fire safety this week.

History: Jadyn is learning about states.  She learned that states have famous places.  We talked about the Golden Gate bridge in California, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Liberty Bell in Pennsylvania, and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.

Co-op: Jadyn made an Eye of God in her American Girl class.
Her Elementary Explorers group also had a field trip yesterday to the police station.

Gabe - Preschool
Gabe learned about the letter "N" this week and we had some fun with some Thanksgiving activities.

Matching big "N" and little "n"
Color matching game.
Getting some help from MJ to get the nests in order by number of eggs.
Matching fall shapes and shadows.
Some Thanksgiving items to sort.

Job - Totschool
Job has not been all about school, but every once in awhile I'll catch him coloring with Gabe. I'm glad he plays pretty well by himself so that I can get school done with the older kids while he is happily playing with trains or cars.  My house is usually a wreck after he's done playing, but I know he's having fun!

Extra:
The kids packed their Operation Christmas Child boxes and dropped them off this week. We had fun picking out toys and thinking about the fun the children would have playing with some new toys. We prayed over each box and are praying each day for the 3 boys and 1 girl that will be receiving these boxes that they would receive the gospel and understand God's love for them!

Read-aloud time with Daddy.  One of their favorite times of day!

A Look at the Past Couple of Weeks

Weekly Wrap-Up
I've gotten behind again on my weekly wrap ups, it's been crazy busy around here.  It's been a rough couple weeks.  I've felt like a failure and that the kids weren't learning anything, but the end of this week God let me see that it's not in vain.  My kids are learning and we're going to get through this rough spot.  I caught Mj teaching Gabe about ancient Egypt.  Jadyn wrote a sentence all by herself without my help - Gods wrd is speshyl.  I want to frame that and keep it forever.  At McDonalds Gabe was picking out letters that he knew.  I needed these little things to encourage me. I'm so thankful God gave me those sweet little encouragements! This homeschool mom thing isn't easy, it's not a job where there are lots of thank-you's or encouragement, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Here's what the past couple of weeks have looked like.

Gabe enjoyed his "M" is for monsters and minions theme. We had lots of Monsters Inc and Monsters U coloring pages, games, and activities.
I took Jadyn & MJ to Saints to try it out for a day.  It's a PE class and they loved it.  We're hoping to get them into the class next semester.

Jadyn's reading has been getting better and better.  Some days she just doesn't want to read, but other days I can't get her to stop.  She was so excited to read her favorite book, "If Everybody Did."
I am domestically challenged when it comes to sewing, but Jadyn has been wanting to learn.  I'm so thankful for Mrs. Wishart teaching Jadyn how to sew.  She sewed her first purse on the sewing machine all by herself!
Jadyn has been learning about time and the calendar.
I love using technology in our school time.  While I'm working with the big kids, Gabe usually is watching the Jesus Storybook Bible videos on youtube.
Mj's artwork he did this past week.
Job discovered his shadow.
Mj is great at making homemade mac and cheese, but I wanted him to expand his culinary skills. So I had him make dinner using one of my cookbooks. He had to have a main course and side dish.  He went all out and had a dessert and drink, too.  I gave him money and he made his grocery list and had to stay within his budget.  He made double dipped chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, party punch, and confetti oatmeal cookies.  It was a delicious meal!
We've been enjoying the fall temps and having school a lot outside.
Job has been loving his train.  He's spent a lot of school time playing "choo-choo".
That's a quick look at what we've been up to.  Check out other homeschool blogs at Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers.

Toothless

On November 5, Jadyn lost her 4th tooth thanks to her friend Emma who pulled it out for her! ;)  I taught Jadyn the song "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth."  She's a cute toothless girl! =)

Happy Halloween!

On Friday, we had so much fun getting dressed up and just having a fun day together enjoying being kids!  We started our morning with friends and cousins at IHOP for free scary face pancakes!

The kids were so good for a group picture.
Max & Jadyn were happy with their scary face pancakes.
Job dug right in to the whipped cream.
Jules & Gabe wasted no time in eating their pancake!
Mj at all the whipped cream off first! LOL
Then we headed over to Krispy Kreme and got free donuts.
For dinner we went to Sonic and enjoyed 50 cent corn dogs!
We ended the night Trick or Treating with friends!  It was a fun, sugar-filled day! =)

Little Farm Field Trip

On Thursday we had a fun morning with our co-op for our field trip to Little Farm.  The kids learned all about the different farm animals and got to pet everything!  They had so much fun!

Mj milking a goat.
 Job loved the piglet!
 Gabe feeding the goats.
Checking out the tiger moth caterpillar overhead.
Job wanted to keep the baby chick.
The told the kids to only use 2 fingers to pet the chick.  I was laughing watching Gabe use 2 fingers to pet the baby chick! ;)
Job up close and personal with a rooster.
 Gabe meeting Tom the turkey.
 Jadyn loves horses.
Job loved the horsey ride, too.  He didn't need my help at all! He's such a big boy!
The group!
We got pumpkins to take home, too!
