Our Week in Review - Looking Forward to Christmas!!!

This week was a relaxed school week getting ready for our Christmas break. Here's what Mj did.

Bible: We talked about the wise men coming to see Jesus, the history of the candy cane and Christmas tree.
English: Mj learned about the dictionary.

Math: More work on hundreds, tens and ones. We also did some review on measurement.
Mj measured the size of Goliath and then compared himself to it.
Reading: Mj read about the wise men's journey to Bethlehem.

Heritage Studies: Mj finished up the chapter about life in the colonies by reading about colonial celebrations and special days. Mj couldn't believe that colonist children couldn't play with toys or run and talk loudly on a Sunday. He also laughed at the idea of a man walking around with a stick with a feather on one end. If a man or boy would fall asleep in the service he get rapped in the head with the stick. If a lady or girl would fall asleep he would tickle her with the feather.

Mj made a Christmas tree to go along with our Advent calendar and Bible lesson this week.

We're looking forward to spending Christmas with family. What a joyous time of year to celebrate the birth of Jesus!!!
Wishing you and your families a Very Merry Christmas!

Tot School - Christmas

Jadyn is 30 months old and Gabe is 10 months old.
Tot School
This week in Tot School we focused on Christmas! Jadyn loved the extra Christmas fun we had planned! I got the printables from Confessions of a Homeschooler and 1+1+1=1. I'm so thankful for the work they do and the free printables they allow us to use! It has really made our Tot School so much fun!

Jadyn put the people and animals of the nativity in the correct place. Of course, she had fun putting them in the wrong place first with a smirk on her face! =)
Jadyn and I put a Christmas puzzle together.
Jadyn does a great job of putting the Baby Jesus pictures in order of size.
Jadyn works on sequence.

Jadyn decided to play with her transportation puzzle. It was nice to get that out for awhile.

For our advent calendar, we read about the wise men and talked about Christmas trees. Jadyn colored a picture of the wise men and glued and painted a Christmas tree! She really enjoys glitter glue! LOL

Gabe enjoyed playing (um... I mean chewing) on the wood nativity.
He has just discovered the "ball train" as Jadyn calls it. This was a favorite of his this week.
My favorite pic of the week - Taking pics with Jadyn. I'm still in awe of the miracle that God gave us 2 and 1/2 years ago in our sweet Jadyn Grace. We didn't deserve God's kindness in giving us this girl that doctors said would never happen.

Now we're looking forward to Christmas break and time with our family! Wishing you and your families a Very Merry Christmas!!!

Teen Christmas Party 2010

On Saturday we had our annual teen Christmas party at our house. It's always such a fun time with our youth group. Here are some pictures from the night.

The 2 Mark's face off in ping-pong.

Mj enjoyed playing MarioKart with the teens.

Brent, Wandy, and Jadyn chatting.

Some serious fuseball competition.

Katie and Angela make great babysitters for Gabe and Streak.

Pass the bowl! I love Wandy's face! She did not want what was in that bowl!

Erik picked out of the bowl - Be a baby in a manger.

Pass the bowl!

Katie picked 10 lords a leaping from the bowl.

Unwrap the gift with oven mitts.

Fast paced!

One of the many festive and delicious desserts.

Outdoor challenge fun.

Jordan and Josh playing outdoor challenge.

Rachel and Angela attempting to play outdoor challenge! =)

We're so thankful that we have the opportunity to work with our youth group. They are such a fun group of teens and we've enjoyed seeing them grow spiritually through out the year.

Our Week in Review - Light, a Shape Poem, and Colonial Life

With the holidays coming it's been crazy around here, but we did get a good week of school in. One more week and then Christmas break!!!! I think I just might be more excited about it than Mj! =)

Bible: We have been going over the Christmas story. We started with Isaiah's prophecies of the Christ child and then saw how they were fulfilled in the New Testament. Mj memorized Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." I taught him how to sing this like they do in Handel's Messiah. He enjoyed sing "and the government shall be upon His shoulder."

Mj added Isaiah and Christ's birth to our Bible timeline.
English: Mj learned about shape poems and wrote a shape poem in the shape of a monkey.

Reading: Mj read about service dogs this week. He also began Dr. Doolittle.
Mj's favorite spot to read.
Math: Mj reviewed the hundreds, tens, and ones places.

Heritage Studies: Mj learned the things colonists ate and their etiquette rules.

Science: Mj learned about light. We did some experiments to show that light cannot bend; it only moves in a straight line. We also did an experiment with shadows.
An experiment - Can light bend?

Nope, light can't bend.
A shadow experiment.
Art: Mj made a gingerbread man from our craft box.

Mj and Jadyn have both been enjoying our advent calendar activities. Here are a few of them.
Jesus is the light of the world - They colored pictures of candles.

Jesus is born!!! They made a nativity for the wall.

The shepherds hear of Christ's birth - They made sheep with cottonballs.
You can check out what Jadyn and Gabe are up to in Tot School.

Tot School - "L"

Jadyn is 29 months old and Gabe is 10 months old.
Tot School

This week we focused on the letter L.

Jadyn was so excited to make a Lion. Her favorite animal! She loves to roar!
She also made a lollipop. You can get these craft ideas at Totally Tots.
We focused some on Ladybugs, too. Thanks to Confessions of a Homeschooler for these printables!

Jadyn matched her ladybugs with the paper.
She also glued a lady bug together.

Jadyn practiced her sign language 'l".
She was also very excited when I pulled out the Christmas foamy stickers.
The kids have been enjoying our advent calendar activities.
Mj and Jadyn colored candles. We talked about how Jesus is the light of the world and how we can also be lights to the people around us.
They also worked very hard making a big nativity scene for the wall.
Jadyn made a sheep with cotton balls for the day we talked about the shepherds hearing about Jesus' birth.
I caught her reading with Mj in his cubby hole.
Gabe has been enjoying all the boxes we've been receiving in the mail! Look what Kohl's sent me!! I think I'll keep him! =)
I love watching Jadyn and Gabe interact with each other.
