Happy 1st Birthday Gabe!

Can you really be 1 year old?! This year has flown by. My sweet little snuggly newborn is now a "almost-walking" snuggly 1 year old! Gabe, you've brought so much joy in our lives. You were definitely a shock coming only 19 months after your big sis. We thought we'd have to wait a long time for you, but God knew that we needed you now!=) I'm so thankful that God gave you to us! Our prayer is that you follow your name. Gabriel - Devoted to God, and Christian - a Follower of Christ. Happy 1st Birthday sweet Gabriel Christian!!! We love you!

Our Week in Review - Measurement, Queen Esther, & Abbreviations

Here's what Mj was up to this week:

Bible: Mj learned about Queen Esther's courage. Mj memorized Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." Mj also learned about the missionary Adinoram Judson who went to Burma.
Adding Adinoram Judson to the Bible timeline.
English: Mj learned about abbreviations for streets, people, and states.

Math: Mj continued with 3 digit addition this week. He learned about renaming the tens and hundreds places and we did a lot of word problems.

Mj played the add to 10 game on wii fit plus.

Reading: Mj read a story about Jonathan Goforth who was a missionary to China.

Handwriting: Mj loves practicing his cursive. This week he learned how to write "T" in cursive.
Spelling: Some fun with Scrabble Flash.

Heritage Studies: Mj learned about blacksmiths and shoemakers. Mj learned that both blacksmiths and shoemakers had apprentices. Mj learned the important parts of a blacksmiths shop and how they would know what to do with the iron by the color of it. Mj learned about the shoes of colonial times. He thought the women's platform shoes were funny looking.
Mj labeled the different parts of a blacksmith's shop.
Science: Mj started a unit on measurement. Mj learned the importance of using a standard unit. He also had to measure different objects with an inch ruler and a centimeter ruler.

Art: Mj and I played the Pick and Draw game.
Mj's nose he has to draw for his cartoon face.

The finished drawing.

My finished drawing.

Mj and Jadyn also enjoyed some more snow this week!

Tot School - "O"

Jadyn is 31 months and Gabe is 11 months
Tot School
Our focus this week was on the letter "O". Jadyn loved the crafts for this week. As always my craft ideas came from Totally Tots.
"O" is for ostrich and owl!
Jadyn loved the octopus color match game I had for her! Thanks to Confessions of a Homeschooler for this printable!
Jadyn was reading about God in her Precious Moments Storybook Bible. I love to hear her read. All I can understand is God and then babble, then God, more babble. Too cute!

Lining up her cars and trucks.Color matching with education cubes.

And of course, a little fun in the snow!Gabe learned that the garage has a ramp and things go down it - like learning links and cars!

He enjoyed putting unifix cubes into Mr. Potsy's lid.

And Mr. Octopus was a fun toy this week, as well. He likes making the octopus dance when he puts a ball in it.
And my favorite pic of the week - SHARING!!!! It can be done by a 2 year old and almost 1 year old!!! I had to document this momentous event! =)

God Gave Us So Much - Review

I absolutely loved this book! It is a collection of three stories: "God Gave Us the World", "God Gave Us Love", and "God Gave Us Heaven". The author is Lisa Tawn Bergren. She does a wonderful job of making things that are hard to understand for a preschooler easier for them to understand by using the polar bear family. My two year old loved the stories and wanted to read it again as soon as I finished it. My seven year old had great questions after we read the story together. Laura J. Bryant is the illustrator. The pictures are eye-catching and very kid-friendly.
I would recommend this book for preschoolers to early elementary aged children. This is definitely a must for any child's library! I'm so glad it's been added to ours!

I received this book free from the publisher through the Blogging for Books book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Love & Respect - A Review

Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs is a great book for couples. His book takes Ephesians 5:33 "...[the husband] love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." This book opened my eyes to how men think and how I was disrespecting my husband and not knowing it. Dr. Eggerichs talks a lot about how couples get on the crazy cycle and he gives us the ways to stop the crazy cycle. He also talks about how women see the world with pink sunglasses and pink hearing aids and men see the world with blue sunglasses and blue hearing aids. We need to be aware of that. I would highly recommend this book to engaged couples and married couples. Mark and I have a wonderful marriage and now I know it will be even better and I can be a part of that by showing him the respect he deserves!

Our Week in Review - Book Report, 3 digit addends, & living things

Mj was able to get a lot done in school this week. Here's what he did.

Bible: Mj learned about Nehemiah and rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. He memorized Psalm 133:1 "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity." I was able to say this verse to him many times when he and his little sister were fighting.=)

Mj putting the books of the Old Testament in order.
Mj added Nehemiah to the Bible timeline.
English: Mj wrote a book report about the bug book he had just read. After the written report was finished he had to give it orally. He did a great job even through all his nervousness!

Reading: Mj read a story about chipmunk who was looking for a king for his village.

Math: Mj worked on 3 digit addition. We got the education cubes out to practice his addition facts and to review money. I wrote another post on how we used the education cubes for our money review.
Rolling his addition fact.

Mj rolls the cube to find out what coin will come up.

Heritage Studies: My learned about a printing press.
Mj made his own type set.
Science: We continued learning about living things. Mj learned that living things make new living things and living things grow.
Mj made the 4 stages of a butterfly's life cycle.
And his seed experiment proved that living things need water. Bag A had no water and the seed did not grow, but...
...bag B did have water and a root started growing!

He also had co-op this week where he learned Spanish numbers and in art they drew backgrounds.

Tot School - "N"

Jadyn is 31 months old and Gabe is 11 months old.
Tot School
This week we focused on the letter "N" in tot school. Jadyn was all about school this week. She always loves making crafts and was quite disappointed with me that I didn't have a craft for her on Wednesday. She came running down after breakfast to her workboxes and look in box #1 and saw a coloring page she looked at me and said, "Oh man" and walked out of the room. Ha! Ha!

N is for Nest and net. As always I get these great craft ideas from Totally Tots.

We did some work on number order by counting the number of eggs in each nest and putting them in order.
Jadyn also worked on matching upper case N and lower case n. These two printables are found at Confession of a Homeschooler.
Jadyn loves to put the weather up on our morning board, but she always puts up that it's stormy. Which of course drives her big brother nuts!!!
I got down the wooden calendar for Jadyn this week. She enjoyed putting the numbers on and off. Of course I think we ended up being in June.
I don't normally do math with Mj when Jadyn is up, but this week Jadyn wasn't into taking naps so she ended up having math with us. She loved Mj's place value kit.
Gabe is getting too big too fast! He's not looking so babyish anymore. I can't believe he'll be turning 1 year old a week from Monday! Where has this year gone?

Gabe was quite entertained with the red light in the basketball hoop. He figured out if he put his finger over the light the song would play. So let's just say I was hearing that song all day!

Gabe loves putting his food into Mr. Potsy and making him sing the vitamin A song.
