A Nice Surprise to End Our Week

Weekly Wrap-Up
We finished week two and had a nice surprise to end our week - Mark took the day off on Friday and we went to our favorite place.... the zoo.  It was nice to take the day off from classes and spend a very hot and fun day at the zoo.  Here's a look at our week.

MJ - 6th Grade

Bible - Mj is working through Apologia's Who Am I? book.  We talked together about how God made us in His image, but what exactly does that mean.  We're not holy, omnipotent, immutable, omniscient, or omnipresent like God is.  However, we are people who think, love, desire relationships, know the difference between good and evil and that is how we are made in God's image.

English - Subordinating conjunctions and prepositions.  Not a favorite for Mj. ;)

Math - Roman numerals, decimals, place value, and patterns.  Lots of review.

History - We talked about Creation, the Fall, Tower of Babel, and the flood.  He did great on his first test and wrote a pretty decent essay about why we study ancient history.

Science - Mj finished his chapter on earthquakes and volcanoes.
Mj didn't know I bought a rock collection for school this year, so he was pretty pumped when I pulled out the rocks and we look at the igneous rocks that volcanoes make.
Mj making a volcano.
Nothing is cooler than a volcano eruption with baking soda and vinegar!

Jadyn - 1st Grade

Bible - Jadyn learned about days 4,5, & 6 of creation. She also learned that God rested on the 7th day not because He was tired from all the creating He did but to show us an example of what we are to do.  We need to take a day of rest to rest our bodies and also to worship God.

Phonics & English - Lots of review still going on which is great for her.  She's doing a great job reading.
She couldn't figure out what I was doing taking a picture of her doing her worksheet. ;)

Math - Numbers 11-18 and working on ordinal numbers.
Working on making pairs to see if a number is even or odd.

History - Jadyn is learning about maps.

Science - Jadyn continues her chapter about the 5 senses.

Extra - Jadyn loves her daily drawing time in her calendar notebook.  She got this book on how to draw animals and is loving drawing a new animal every day.
Gabe - Preschool
This week Gabe learned the letter "D", the number 2, and triangles.

Coloring his Wordy Worm "D" paper.

This was the activity of the week.  He asked to play this every day.  He had to put the clothespins on the numbers on each shape.
Tracing practice.
Playing some Candyland with Mommy.
Putting the dinosaurs in order of size.
Working on his numbers.  He had to put the number on the dump truck and put that many blocks in the truck.
Scissor practice.
We've been working on same and different.
Making a dinosaur craft.
I love the ABC's of God app and so does Gabe.  A great way to work on letter recognition.
Job - Totschool
Job enjoyed a lot of play dough fun this week. He was being a duck in this picture and he thought it was pretty hilarious.
Some Bubble time with Mommy on the porch.

Expedition Earth - We enjoyed learning about South Korea this week.  The kids learned about the flag of South Korea and how to say hello.
We enjoyed Korean beef for dinner on Friday. It was a very easy recipe and quite yummy.  I'll be making it again!
Friday Mark surprised us and took the day off.  One of the perks of homeschooling - we could all take the day off and enjoy a fun morning at the zoo.

These 2 have to model with every statue.
Job loves "phants" (AKA elephants)
Mj calculating his steps taken on his DS.
Job is in his happy place - the splash pad.

My monkeys!
On our way out we passed the sun bear.  He came over and sat in front of us.  I wanted to take him home. He was so cute.

So that was a peek into our week.  Check out other homeschoolers' weeks at Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers.
